More Donk Troubles

More troubles with Eddie.

For some reason he is down again and not able to get up. Ever try and get a vet on New Yrs Eve?
We did have him checked out.
Nothing wrong with him at all.

I'm sure there must be.

We have to go back out now and try and get him back on his feet.
Wondering if we put him inside, if that will make a difference. But inside we cannot lift him with the skid steer so easily...
tonight is supposed to be especially wicked and cold.

I'll post more later...
[sad face]

[the photo was taken yesterday when he was up and about playing like a young donkey]

  1. OH Darn!!! I'll be sending good thoughts towards Eddie. I can't imagine it not being cold-weather related. Arthritis? Stiffness in his bones and joints? Anyway, I'm thinking of you and remain hopeful!

  2. Poor Eddie. Maybe he has SAD (seasonally affected disorder? - where the cold weather makes people (and mules?) feel depressed.) I hope he feels frisky again very soon.
I see you like mysteries so feel free to visit my blog where I write about writing crime thrillers. Cut Short is currently out of stock on amazon.com (people will keep buying it!) but they'll have more in very soon so don't be put off ordering if you like the look of it.

  3. Liegh I will...

MJ~we are warming up the skid steer to put him inside so he'll be out of the weather tonight [very cold]...
and we can personally monitor all of his food and water intake.

Some donkeys will decide that they have given up the will to live and nothing any medical professional can do can change that.

His gums are white, nose cold. He has lost that look in his eye.

I am not afraid to say that I am very very scared for him.
    [hopefully not over reacting]

  5. Oh I'm so sorry. I really do hope the little guy comes around. Does he have any good friends in the herd? Do you think it would be helpful if he had a companion in the barn somewhere in sight of him? A friend for comfort sake?
We had a terrible day yesterday weather-wise, but today is cold but beautifully sunny. I hope that you weather improves and maybe Eddie will too! Hugs to you all!!

  6. his buddies both Sunshine [the mule injured this summer] and Sundance [Sunshine's 6 month old half sister] are in with him.

If we move him inside, he'll have company, Bob...the stud donkey is in a stall near where we will put him....

  7. Happy New Year Val. I am hoping Eddie is feeling better today. This is the hardest part for me in having stock. My husband tries to hide his feelings by saying "if you're gonna have livestock you're gonna have dead stock." but believe me we keep the vets pretty busy at time. I am praying for Eddie's quick recovery and thanking God that your animals have YOU!! Best of luck!!
