I woke up to.....
~~~~~ - 17 F just before it dropped to -20 F [-28 C]. There is no wind right here in front of the house and this will be were the equine ladies gather when the sun peaks over the tree tops.
Even Charlie thought it was a bit cold. He asked to borrow my over the glasses goggles to go out to do his business.
Now that the weather report is out of the way [cold, bitter cold], I can move on.
I was supposed to go in today and sign some paperwork for my insurance. I'm going to call in and do it tomorrow. I got sick of the company I've done business with only one claim in 30 years of raising prices and never saying a thing. The first owner -- now retired -- would call us and explain what was going on and how he could try and find better coverage for us.
This service hasn't continued with his son. So last week I walked into a local agency and sat down with my paperwork. The end result was a $700 savings overall with the same coverage. Yes, they will raise prices I'm sure but I know I can stop in their office and speak directly to them. I'm not dealing with a no face no personality person.
Yippee me. The cold is brutal enough to delay schools, shut down some schools, and convince me that making a drive to town that I postpone until tomorrow is smart.
I woke up to the news that Musk is now delving into Social Security. 72.5 million people's lives can be affected by someone who doesn't even understand how SS works. Especially if they don't understand the language of COBOL.
I wonder how the unemployment figures are going to look next month for all of the firings that have gone on. I wonder how many more planes are going to crash. I wonder how the price of eggs are doing. I wonder who will be picking produce. I wonder how many elderly are having their heat cut off. I wonder how much more we can take.
I don't think I'm supposed to talk about this sort of thing on my blog. You know with those goons running things, I feel like every word I say or type is being watched. Maybe. Maybe not. Is it 1984 yet?
*****************
So enough of that. I'm sick. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired and I am whiney.
It's warmed up to -14, so I'll put on my gear and head out. Thankfully, the chores are not so hard.
I'm going to eat Chicken noodle soup and watch the birds at the feeder.
I am so sorry. Feeling better, then waking up the next day worse, is a mean thing for your body to do. They are literally killing people, cutting off food assistance, housing assistance, Medicaid and soon, I have no doubt, Social Security and Medicare. How's the economic future going to look when 3/4 of government employees are unemployed. People cut off from financial resources who now cannot bills, much less buy food? How's that going to make America great again? Now we are considered an adversary to Europe. The billionaires now running the show are cozied up to dictators and deciding what Ukraine and Palestine will do, without any input from them. I'm sorry. I am angry.
ReplyDeleteBe angry that is what we need.
DeleteAnd I just engaged in an argument with a 'friend' on FB over the firing of veterans in the federal workforce. Neither she or anyone in their family ever served so I laid into her ... nicely with facts. Blood boiling, so I best get off the internet and take a damned nap.
DeleteSorry you are on an extended stretch of feeling yucky Val. It is your blog, you can whine/vent/say whatever you want.
ReplyDeleteHope you find the warmth of chicken soup helpful & watching bird antics entertaining. Feel better.
Oh when I don't feel well, I am MISS Queen of Cranky. I literally growl at myself.
DeleteWe ate soup at lunch. I want to be able to take a decent breath. However, I must recall that this hasn't happened to me in so many years and I am very lucky to be as well as I have been.
Good grief! It's so cold out there and we feel like -14 this morning. I put the horses back in the barn. As for Musk, Trump and the goon squad....if they mess with social security we will be in big trouble and so will millions of others. Feels like the entire country is getting cut off at the knees. They don't give a crap about our vets or anyone else. I wonder if our military will stick with the constitution. Lori
ReplyDelete30% of the federal workforce are veterans. How many of our young folk will now volunteer after seeing veterans and many others shat upon?
DeleteYeah, I don't blame you for putting your horses in the barn. My gals are sleeping in front of the house and eating the hay they are laying on. Lazy gals.
Sounds like you might have a secondary infection, maybe go to Urgent Care tomorrow if you are not better:)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to my PCP on Thursday so I'm going to be waiting for her. I'll see her for the ER visit and this yuck stuff. Thanks for your advice though, I appreciate it. Generally I get passed off to a very nice but ... a doc who really doesn't get me very well.
DeleteGood morning, Val. I'm so sorry you're so sick.
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact, I was disappointed we couldn't go to the Trump protest in Honolulu yesterday. I wrote a post about it for tomorrow.
I would have gone with you! Can you believe people in my town and in my state stood out in subzero dangerous weather to protest? Wow!
DeleteI am behind and working backwards in blogland. But I am having an insurance issue, too. We have had the same company forever (1978) and all the sudden they want to have a meeting. Our homeowners went up which I was expecting, but I hear there are all kinds of changes with our auto insurances. I hate change. I hate calling around and getting quotes. But it might have to happen.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon
Yes our insurance company was 30 yrs. I understand why the insurance is going up as I used to be an underwriter. It is all in statistics and the cost of lumber [for rebuilding] and labor as well as increases in prices for fixing vehicles. Thanks Mr. Tariff.
DeleteThe climate disasters only add to the cost as we have to share all of it in areas.
I went downtown and walked into two different offices without notice and was treated like a queen. I want to see them face to face when I deal with insurance.
Old fashioned that way.
Might wanna get / grab some covid tests. Best to know now and get onto Paxlovid to help clear it and possibly prevent long covid. As an elderling, I was permitted to get more vaxes than most youngsters, and as a healthcare worker. After 9 vaxes, got covid on my last day as nurse before retiring from a college kid who came home to my patient hacking and coughing. It's bad out there. Grab some tests. Watch for your horses to get drooly noses. Just had to say that. I love horses. Stay warm. Yea, I'm mad too. We earned our SS, it's not given free. Supposedly they'll save enough money to maybe put it into our SS, eh? Worked for 4 years at the KCVA, don't even start with how crappy they're treating employees or their vets! Linda in Kansas (yep, we're =19 wind chill.)
ReplyDeleteGot the test. Negative.
DeleteThe mules are fine. They are sleeping soundly in the sun.
thank you.
