You can see the roof of our machine shed behind Mica the grey mule.
The noxious weeds were taking over the east side of this paddock and it annoyed me. I knew that eventually the Motherwort would just creep across the grassy area so I'm fighting it.

Here is Sundance watching me from the winter pasture [before I let them into the northern summer meadow].
...and when I first let them into the summer meadow.
There is always a bit of excitement, but they always settle in quickly.
I still need to trim mule manes, but I'll just have to wait until a good day to get that done. I haven't had the opportunity to ride yet this spring either. I guess that will wait also.
My flower gardens are mostly planted but I have one little section on the west side of the house to do. IF it gets done late, that is okay too.
I stuck with all seeds this year for flowers. I didn't purchase any plants at all. I am using all collected seeds plus a couple of new kinds of flower seeds just to see how they do.
For this summer I am thinking up some more painting projects for my Captain's Chair I got last year at a rummage sale.
Right now I am figuring out how to move things around and get rid of a few things as we plan on getting a hospital bed for hubby. I may move the full sized bed right into the living room where my cot is currently.
We are in for a stretch of rainy days which we need and these days will give me some time to rest and recoup from the last week of intense hard work. Perhaps I can even get back to doing some still life photography and toy photography!
I still have to complete my photos from the track meet last Monday night.
Many of the action shots are my favorite, but this one is my favorite favorite.
That was a big job getting rid of those weeds. Those gas weed whackers are a work out. I struggle with the battery one!
ReplyDeleteI actually went with an electric one last year and it didn't have the power to cut down tall thistles so I have to adjust.
DeleteThey are a workout and I took breaks every hour.
Have you ever thought of getting a couple of goats to keep those hard weeds in check? They can eat anything apparently.
ReplyDeleteYes I have. I had a goat and he was good with the pony but mules and goats don't often mix with good results. At this point I need less animals to care for ... but people do rent herds to come in and clean up their fields and forests for a fee.
Delete;)
I raised goats and milked them for quite a few years on another farm.
Kay of Musings: I’m in Chicago right now and just have a few moments to check in to see what’s happening. I’m sorry you have so much on your plate. I’m amazed at all you do. It’s very hard to worry about your other half too.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't a burden in a way, but a good way to work off extra energy. I do look forward to not having all of this work to do.
DeleteCute happy jumping mules! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI like the mules going into the new field.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are always excited to be able to run out there and kick up their heels.
DeleteThose girls are happy!. My pastures need work but unfortunately so does the large lawn tractor I use to cut it. I just bought Marka battery operated chainsaw because the gas one is just too heavy. You are strong.
ReplyDeleteThat would be great to have a lawn tractor to do ours. But the rocks, logs, and hillsides make most of that impossible.
DeleteI have an electric chainsaw and an electric weed eater too. I love my little chainsaw, it is easier to handle than a large heavy one!
LS.....I have a gas powered weed whacker and feel I can't use it here as it is because it is too loud. Your worked hard to get that pasture cleared. I can see why they like that area.
ReplyDeleteVery very impressed with your efforts in cleaning up all those weeds! You are amazing. I hope you can relax a little during the next few days and figure out some furniture arrangements. Thinking about you guys and hoping you are getting enough sleep
ReplyDeleteYes, rain delays are good for resting. I hope my neighbor comes through with his promise of cutting the weeds down in the larger meadow for me in a few weeks.
DeleteThere’s always work to be done on a rural property.
ReplyDeleteTrue. Historically my husband did this work with a tractor and brush hog which are not things I can operate. So aside from keeping the rest of the place in shape, I am trying my best to care for the pastures.
DeleteRough terrain makes for more intense labour. Good job on the weeds! Loved the video, my mares get silly too every time I switch pastures.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a challenge to put it mildly and you impress me no end getting all this done. Enjoyed the photos and the video, and that last one I can see why it is a favorite. Your flower beds are coming along very nicely. I did some cutting off dead leaves in one of the pots out back and that was about it!
