Just fun things I found while out checking the meadow east of us.
Below is a little plant/flower called Pussytoes. [scientific name: Antennaria plantaginifolia]
Here is a few glimpses of what I also found while walking to the mailbox and back.
Wild Plum Blossoms 5/1.

Spring Beauties
Macro of above flower....
May is a crazy month for me. Fall in reverse! So many things are happening in nature that is can boggle the mind.
Trees produce new leaves and catkins. Other trees flower. On the forest floor ephemeral flowers appear and are gone quickly while other flowers and plants emerge.
I feel that if I miss a morning walk, that I miss many things.
I need to get back out to see how one of my favorite trees is doing.
The Hawthorne tree.
Its needles are sharp and the tree has an interesting shape, but the flowers they produce are pretty amazing.

These are just starting. In the woods nearby, I can only find one solitary Hawthorne tree as the other three have died.
Perhaps I'll go out this morning and see if the blossoms have opened yet.
Totally agree! The Hawthorne tree has such a unique, almost mystical vibe with those sharp needles and gnarly branches — kind of like nature’s own sculpture! But then come spring, BOOM — those flowers are stunning! Such a cool contrast between tough and delicate. Love spotting them on walks! 🌸🌳✨
ReplyDeleteYour macro shot of the little mauve flower is stunning! And Pussy Toes -- what a delightful name!
ReplyDeleteI thought Pussy Toes was such a fun name and a unique looking plant too!
DeleteI have a bunch of pussy toes! I love the wild weeds in my lawn.
DeleteHopefully next week we will see some flowers on Trees, the Chokecherries are just showing leaf color now. Your macros are amazing! Yes nature is un fast forward till about mid june then things come slowly..there are changes everyday!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I can't tell the real difference between the chokecherry blossom and the plum blossom but they all smell so sweet!
DeleteYep, things slow down in June and hopefully we get proper rain so we can find fungi!
The mauve flower is my fave today. I maybe like the non-macro best of the two, but I am not entirely sure. Have a good day with the plants.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure which one of the Spring Beauty I like best either, that is why I posted both here. I think the next up will be the purple wild geraniums and the jack in the pulpits!
DeleteI don't think Ive ever seen a Hawthorn tree or any of these flowers, But then I don't go looking. Everything is emerging fast now.
ReplyDeleteThe Hawthorne tree is supposed to be mythical in a way. It can be associated with fairies...and I imagine elves...why not? One of the reasons I like it so much!
ReplyDeleteSpring is an amazing time of year on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing all these pretties. I love this time of the year.
ReplyDeleteIt is an exciting time of year as all the flowers and leaves appear! Thank you for capturing it for us.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful spring blooms! I went out for a walk in the hills yesterday and was surprised to find a lot blooming in my neck of the woods!
