I 'yam a Farming Dog!

 Guest Blog by Twila

Charlie says I am a Wild Child and I don't know much about much. Maybe he is right because HE is an OLD dog like anciently or something.
The Grandma says I am still a pup since I am just like a year into this world.

But I like sticks and The Grandma gave me a huge one that I can play with in the yard.

Day Two of my Grandma-Grandpa Camp visit went well. We hiked in the Big Woods again and took what The Grandma called the One Mile Loop. I don't know what a Loop is and I don't need to know.

Charlie and I investigated some smells in a dry run full of leaves. He told me about all the animals that had passed through this place in the hours before we came. We investigated for a long time, following scents on the ground and in the air.

Even though Charlie is VERY old [he says he isn't], he knows stuff so it is good to hang out with him.

He knows these woods like it is his yard. Well, he claims these woods are his because he marks as many trees as he can to claim them.

There were things falling from the trees and making noise everywhere. Charlie told me that they were acorns and that we could watch for squirrels.
I know squirrels! I would like to chase them!

There were chipmunks too that kept teasing us.

The Grandma was interested in all the cool fungi showing up on the wood and sticks. I didn't bother picking any up as the other smells were much more enchanting.

I was a really good dog. The Grandma said so! When she wanted to look at something little, she told me to sit and I did!
I will tell you a secret. She keeps tiny little dog biscuits in a plastic bag in her pocket. When she rattles the plastic Charlie and I run to sit in front of her.

Here I posed for a photo for Mom and Dad. A tiny biscuit was my reward. Aren't I adorable?

We were tired when we got in the house and ready for dog naps. Good thing too! It rained and rained and rained.

After naps, The Grandma said it was time for one more walk to the ridge. I don't know what a ridge is either, but Charlie said it was an open area where were could see far if we were tall. Charlie IS not Tall!

After our Big Ridge Walk we came home and had our supper.

...and more naps.

The Grandma said that Charlie and The Grandpa would get a break from me on Thursday. She thought I'd like to go do a real trail at some place with her.  Charlie said he'd stay home and rest because his little legs were tired and dealing with a kid was stressful so he need quiet time.

Oh!
I got to see something called mules last night too. I helped The Grandma do chores even though it was a bit awkward.
The mules just stared at me and didn't snort or anything. I just stared at them and smelled them. I sat next to The Grandma and watched them while they ate.

I would like to taste their poop. Charlie says it is delightful.

I like being a Farming Dog!

I 'yam Twila

Guest Blog by Twila:

My Mom and Dad thought some time at Grandma and Grandpa's farm would be fun for me while they went on a trip before their puppy comes. Oh wait Grandma says it is a baby human, not a puppy

When my Dad left, I was in terrible shock. I saw his orangey Subaru pull away in the rain and I just couldn't belief it. He forgot me! Wait. The Grandma said not to worry, I'd get to see them again soon. I don't know what 'soon' is so decided to circle the house endlessly for a while.

I checked all the doors and windows.

The Grandma said 'Chill out' and she sat on the couch with Charlie. I was still worried and decided to sit there too. Maybe my Dad just made a huge mistake and once he looked in the back of the Subaru he'd know I was forgot.

Pretty soon the Grandpa joined us on the couch.

I settled in for a bit and then after sorting and arranging the toys and bones...
I took a nap.

When the rains stopped Grandma took out my leash. It has a chain thing on it because I chew through leashes when I take walks.

I like sticks, I like smells, I like sticks very much. I like smells very much. I like Charlie too. I like to follow him.
Grandma says I am strong. I am strong. I pulled her right up the hill with me. I'm a big help.

When we got to the Big Woods, I got to smell lots of wild things. There were deer bones, deer poo, and other delightful things. Charlie showed me around.
By the time we reached the top of the second hill I wasn't pulling the Grandma up the hill anymore. I was just walking next to her.

I even sat pretty when she told me to. She wanted to take my picture to send to Dad so he would know I didn't get loose or lost.

Grandma says I look like a coyote. I am not sure what a coyote is but Dad says I am cattle dog and a lot of other things. Grandpa calls me Heinz 57 and I don't know what that is either.

Charlie calls me Dog or Hey You.

I got back from the big hike/walk and it was supper time. Charlie ate his food and I ate mine only after Grandma put some of Charlie's Kibbles on top of mine.

More time outside after the humans ate their supper and then it was time to relax.

I slept all night in my bed when the humans went to sleep. I cuddled with Grandma around 4 in the morning.

After our breakfast and morning outing, Grandma told me she wanted us to do quiet time while she had her morning coffee.

We can be really good doggies.

I wonder what we will do today!

I 'yam Twila...or Dog.

 Shouldn't leave your laptops open when I am around. Word of advice.😆
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ah, the Saturday morning before our parents arrive and that peaceful feeling of "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! MOM AND DAD ARE COMING TOMORROW." *Cough, cough* is in the air. The donks are braying for their breakfasts, ye olde Fred is busy with Sundance, and Fifteen is standing next to the catchpen while everyone runs around putting on cowboy boots and prepping for a nice ride in the neighbor's hay field.
Since the V had asked the R if one would like to join the V, A and D for a ride and the R had said "Sure". Everybody was in hustle and panic mode.
After gathering four leads and halters the wonderful catching of ye olde Fred, ye younger Mica, ye even younger Sunshine and ye youngest Siera. Then comes the fun part of tying everyone to the trailer and...
Brushing them out.
Dun, dun,dun.
Oh wait, we can't start just yet! Sundance decided to crunch the top of the catch pen! Now how did she think she could jump that five foot high fence of rails? On to the naughty tree you go!!
*An hour and a half [or so] later*
Bridles, check (yes! Got Siera's on myself!), saddles, check, helmets, check, pants,check, Dennis, check.
"Let's go."
Up, up, up the driveway we go and cya later, Sundance!! Have fun on the naughty tree!!
(If you look carefully next to the catchpen (not the crunched one) you should be able to make out Sundance. That is why the picture is blown up so big.)
Onto the hay field we are.
We rode for a few minutes then discovered Scrawny (Dennis) cannot sit straight in the saddle unless you get after him...A lot....Also discovered he sits back too far in the saddle when trying to get Fred's head up when he's trying to eat. (Le sigh.)
After we got the 'minor details' out of the way, we had a grand old time. After riding the hay field in full, it was high time we went home and got lunch after putting everyone away!
Or so I thought.
We came home and I started taking Siera's tack off when Grandma comes around the corner and goes: "Nu uh! Hang Siera's bridle on her saddle horn, we're going to eat then head out again without the boys."
...OK, sure, why not?  We have an afternoon to kill, Grandpa's going to sleep anyway. So suuuuuuurrrrrre!!!!!
*Boring lunch sequence, watches Fred and Sunshine get put up, yada, yada, yada.*
"We're going down through the soybeans and into the woods, K?"
"K."
Little did I know, we were not just going down to the creek and back, oh no. We were going down to the back valley.
(Face of someone who didn't know we were going all the way back to the back valley.)
We rode down the ridge road and down next to the creek where we went left instead of right, hmm, I'm getting the sneaky suspicion this is going to be a longer ride today.
Going left we encountered the 'dreaded' creek, Grandma made Mica cross instantly while Siera...Stopped. Decided 'nope, not today' and I spun her in a half circle and made her try again.
"Ooh! You are not going to make me cross the creek? Sure! We can go home!"
"Don't let her go home!"
Spun her around again and tapped her on the sides and told her she would be fine. "Nope. Nada, zilch. Forget it! Not today! Not today!"
Next thing I know Grandma and Mica have crossed again (note: Mica doesn't like it either, but she still did it) and Grandma is doing everything she can to help without tying Mica up.
"I don't see any trees closeby I can tie her too."
So we kept working on Siera and I ended up in another spot entirely then...
"Keep her going! Keep her going!!"
She crossed but we ended up only halfway. Grandma hollering instructions and telling us to keep riding right. Sure. I can do that. Gets in knee deep mud for Siera. *Insert loud sucking noise and Grandma spins around in the saddle thinking Siera fell*
We walk up close and I nod. We keep going. However we had to bust brush as the weeds and Wild (dead) Parsnip were up really tall. Mica put her head to the side and walked forward, while Siera plowed through like it was nobody's business.
Sweet. We got through. Now what? More snowmobile trail? Sure!! Uphill? Why not?
We rode up through the woods and then we came to a cornfield. Can you say 'middle of nowhere?' I sure could! (I honestly had no idea where we were besides that we weren't too, too close to Awesome Creek anymore, I vaguely had a sense of where to go if I needed to get back myself though.)
(Note: While we were riding up said woods all of the sudden whoosh! We are in a hole and stumbling out.
"Oh yeah, watch out for the hole."
So helpful indeed.)
We came to another mysteriously hidden trail head and were traveling downhill again. How nice it was to look down and see a really wicked steep looking drop off and seeing dirt and water below.
We rode until we came to a downed tree, we found a trail through the underbrush and went around it. Then we came to the ice cave. We stopped (first previous photo) and let our mules rest.
"Check your gear, ...Oh look at your pants."
I do not wear jeans so I had a bunch of those icky green things stuck to my hems. Eww. (Took an hour and a half to get those things off.) Time to consider a pair of jeans…
We headed back and no one had any problems. Siera crossed the creek without issues in round two and we headed back home.
We stopped at the head of the driveway to dismount and walk down the steep part of the driveway. It took two attempts for me to get out of the saddle. (That was my longest ride to date.) We walked back, tied Siera and Mica to the trailer and that was that.
What a nice Saturday afternoon.
We're Loose in the Country! (Watch out!)
Guest Blog by: Ariel.
 Grandma's letting me do a blog. [YES!]
~
We started out doing the Chores. Which, for some, might be boring but for me and Dennis it's fun!
 After that Grandma had to take care of Crystal. [She's a black and tan hound. She has sores on her neck and chest. She is doing OK however.]
Then we packed up some trail mix and Great Grandma's cookies, we  finished it off with  water, and we were off!
We went  down to the Tainter  Hollows.
We stopped to look at the road and some flowers, and took pictures!
We hopped back into the car and drove down the road aways, we came to some rock that had names on them. And we thought we saw a Peg! Turned out to be a Ren through. [Nuts.]
We drove to a place where we  thought beavers were, there wasn't. So we threw rocks into the water and did a selfie. Grandma slipped in the sand while she was running across the road to be in the picture, ending up knocking all three of us down.
{After we drove away from that place we stopped down the road a ways and there was people coming from the place  we just came! Whew, they didn't see us when we were taking selfies.}
[This picture was taken by Grandma's camera, the rest are mine.]
A little while later we went to a creek to eat and take more pictures.
Grandma climbed down under the bridge and was surprised to see Mother birds feeding their babies! It was so awesome!
We were close to the end of our little Road Trip when I spotted a Mother cow and her babies.
"You guys can walk up and see them." Grandma informed us.
There were three babies in all!
[Whew, that's a lot!]
We found a small waterfall and creek to step in; after another 15 minutes we went home.
We washed Crystal and Ellie May really, really, well. [Ellie is the newest of the gang. In case you didn't know who I was talking about.]
Then Grandma and Dennis washed out their houses.
We went for a walk but I was too worn out and only made it to the top of the [huge] driveway.
After supper I went out with Morris to go take pictures around the farm.
The sunset was super cool. So were the clouds!
So after giving Morris and cookie [and everyone {'cept Grandpa who was in bed} got Milkshakes.] {sadly} our day had ended.
Boy! What a day it was!!
We're Loose in the Country! (Watch out!)
Thank you, Grandma, for letting me post on your blog.
Bye 'til next time!!
