I hugged a doctor

I know, it seems strange to say that doesn't it?

I've known my Optometrist for 6 years. He and I had a mutual interest in photography. He has been advocate for my eye care. He is a young fella who loves to photograph nature and birds. We'd discuss camera settings and things we want to photograph while he peered into my eyes.

He was my after care doctor for my cataract surgery [which turned out excellent!].

During the annual appointment this week, he came into the room beaming and glowing. He had important news to tell me.

I said, "You're going to have a baby!"

"You are right! A baby girl in 3 weeks!"

He never missed a beat and went on to tell me how excited and scared he was about being a father.  I was over the moon with that and so happy for him.

Unfortunately it also meant that he was going to transfer to a eye clinic closer to home.

He asked about how I was doing as a Caregiver and expressed his concern over hubby being in Hospice. I told him I was doing good all things considered and that my eyes and photography kept me sane.

My eyes hadn't changed now in two years so our appointment was short.

When I got up to leave, I asked if I could give him a hug. He gave me the biggest smile and there it was, I hugged my eye doctor.

That was the high point of the week, finding joy in someone else's life. I'll be sad that I won't see him anymore and I won't forget our discussions about photography either.

I swear, if we hadn't been patient and doctor we'd meet up somewhere and have coffee and show each other our work and talk about cameras, lenses, and methods.

He said his photography interests would now change from wildlife to...well, baby portraits!

I have to admit, I will miss him as an eye doctor. However, the one I'm transferring to is another doctor who took care of me when I had a vitreous hemorrhage. That doctor not only had a great sense of humor, but also is quite the character. How lucky can I be?

I will leave you with a photo of the day for fun.

Buds and more

When it rains
look for the rainbows

When it's dark
look for the stars

Another set up and shot of some of the cool minifigs I got from Aurora.

I love looking at the night skies here as we can see the stars and soon again, I'll be able to go out and admire the Milky Way in the night sky.

Yesterday afternoon was a bit cool and breezy, but Charlie and I were going stir crazy. We thought we'd go looking for some birds. In the morning I'd seen red wing black birds along with Killdeer birds. Our walk took us up along the gravel road and to the ridge.

Afternoon isn't really the right time to go looking, but we were hopeful.  We saw chickadees that were flitting about in the trees and calling out.

I was happy to find these odd birds.

Hmmm, I sort of think this is early for a bird to have a little fledgling right?

Will wonders never cease! I am not sure what species this bird is though.
Perhaps:

 Lego Birdus?

Charlie and I went through the cropland to stay out of the wind and noted some buds on the trees.

I'm not sure if this is a Poplar or a Birch tree bud. The tree looks like a poplar tree but I am no expert.

I am sure that this is a maple tree. I don't know what kind, my forester neighbor could tell me all the details. He knows trees. I'm sure a mere glance would reveal what it was to him.

Another tree near the possible Poplar Tree. I think this one is a birch by looking at its bark. But I may not be correct either. It does have some pretty cool catkins forming.

I stopped at the ancient wild plum tree on our way back home.
This little bird just watched me as it sat sunning itself out of the wind.

Another Lego species?
Lego Migratus perhaps?

With spring weather in the air, it brings so much anticipation. Each season does that to me.

Is it time to put away my snow boots yet?

You never know. I recall the blizzard we had April 20th of 2019. That was a wild one.
