The first order of business after chores with ice cleats was to get the previous day's mail on the ridge and get started on the 'homey' chores I'd ignored for the past few days.
Below was the surprise of bits of frost that the fog left on the plants on the ridge.
I set Pandora to Neil Diamond, Electric Light Orchestra, and Harry Chapin music and ripped up my chores.
The music really really got me into the groove. In fact I finished in record time and even started to work on the old Christmas chair to paint.
The sun came out. Charlie sat on the porch.
When I watched the news from MN a bit later, I was in shock at what happened. There are laws governing Lethal Force. Putting a gun to a woman's head who is unarmed and trying to flee is not covered under legal Lethal Force. The protocol is to take her license plate and arrest her for obstruction later.
Any officer who carries a weapon and goes through weapon training and qualification EACH year as I had done for 10 years knows this. It is drilled into our heads.
That officer should be arrested by MN and charged under state laws which are unpardonable by the president.
Federal Law regarding Lethal/Deadly Force:
From the Department of Justice:
- Deadly force may not be used solely to prevent the escape of a fleeing suspect.
- Firearms may not be discharged solely to disable moving vehicles. Specifically, firearms may not be discharged at a moving vehicle unless: (1) a person in the vehicle is threatening the officer or another person with deadly force by means other than the vehicle; or (2) the vehicle is operated in a manner that threatens to cause death or serious physical injury to the officer or others, and no other objectively reasonable means of defense appear to exist, which includes moving out of the path of the vehicle. Firearms may not be discharged from a moving vehicle except in exigent circumstances. In these situations, an officer must have an articulable reason for this use of deadly force.
LD....I like you blue chair and desk. It makings it personal with the lamp. I never owned one but was such a fascinated kid when I saw them. My chair to my desk it a wooden colonial looking thing from an odds and ends sale from a furniture store. I never had a desk that matched its style. My desk is actually a glass one from a garage sale. My late father-in-law ordered too many chairs for his table set.The customer didn't want seven chairs. Wow that was fifty years ago when I got it. I didn't have to pay for it.
ReplyDeleteI suspect ICE agents are quickly and poorly trained. They are essentially stormtroopers. Unfortunately for the victim, this was a fatal incident simply waiting to happen with such agents.

Unfortunately, the other branches and agencies are following different rules now. I pray we get through this. My K.C. news understanding is that the victim was an approved observer of ICE actions. DeleteNice that you now have a desk....and of course I love the chair you painted. The ICE agent who shot the woman is already being protected by JDV. Laws don't seem to matter to this administration.

ReplyDeleteI am sick and angry and frustrated and sad. And so much more angry with the lies coming from press conferences today.
Our state has trained observers for elections - I am sure it is similar. They are trained by the county board of elections and it is a volunteer position from any party. We have had them at my poll. They bring a chair, sit in a corner and quietly observe. We are not allowed to talk to them and they don't talk to us. I have thought about becoming one since they do it for fewer hours and I am getting old.
And whether she was or not is immaterial. She was not doing anything wrong. Armed men with masked were yelling conflicting orders at her and shot her several times in the face. I guess they forgot it was 2026 and every person is watching them with a camera.
Your desk looks so neat and tidy! I always wanted a lava lamp. Not only are they extremely cool, but they make a pretty good photo opp!
