It is that time of the year again!
This will be the third year!
Just as dawn started to brighten the steel grey skies, concussions of gunshots rang out. Welcome to opening day of the gun deer season.
By 10am Charlie was a wet noodle of jiggling jello and anxiety. He wouldn't even let hubby go to the bathroom alone. He sat under Rich's chair in the eating area while I put away all of the stuff I'd been working on.
The mules were not bothered by the gunshots. They've been around for many hunting seasons and they just picked up their heads and glanced around then went back to eating their hay. They are up close to the house during the gun season.
I put all of my current projects away after shooting some more photos. I didn't want to put the crystal forest away, but it was time to do our annual project.
A not so nice Wizard!!!
Wanda feeds her pet dragon....
....and after lunch, we started....
Rich still gives me a bit of grief over TOYS, but as you can see, he really gets into sorting things.
He even puts the minifigs together and anything else he can figure out. This is a huge challenge as he has essential tremors that sometimes interfere with his eating.
But he works at it. He delights in separating the Lego pieces by color and then separating those pieces by type.
His doctors love the fact that he gets engrossed in these projects. They feel that it helps his small motor skills, makes him think and use his brain, and it amuses him. Sometimes he studies the book to try and figure out how things go together.
In short, he IS engaged in an activity.
I once asked the doctors if they could prescribe Legos. They laughed and said they wished they could. So each year, I try to find a project we can do together when the days are darkest for him.
With every noise on Saturday, poor Charlie got so rattled. Eventually, he had to get in on the action by sitting on my lap while I was trying to put things together.
I usually start the Christmas Chair project right after Thanksgiving Day. But this year I'm going to wait to decorate. That 'spirit' has not struck me at all. I've already seen enough 'Christmas commercials' to make me grumpy.
Instead, we are going to take it one day at a time and enjoy this big project.
What a wonderful project! Good for you. I do enjoy your adventures.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about the gunfire. I find it disturbing, as well.
I don't find it disturbing as I know most of those who are shooting within a half mile of our house. It usually is the worst on the first weekend and then on the last day. But at least now we spend time together inside enjoying something different.
DeleteIt is nothing short of wonderful that you both enjoy Lego's together!!
ReplyDeletePoor Charlie. I suppose turning music/tv up to drown out the blasts doesn't help much. We have only heard a few gunshots way off in the distance.
I play music as we rarely have the TV on. But we are located in an area where we can hear the gunfire it bounce around on the hillsides.
DeleteThe concussion of the shots close by did him in yesterday morning. Not close like dangerous close, but still, we could hear and feel it. That was at dawn. It was quiet in the house and he became an instant puppy puddle!
Always have loved your Christmas chairs! Can't wait to see this one. So far, not too much shooting around our farm. Can't stand the sound of a war zone. Lori
ReplyDeleteIt was better this year than most. Sometimes I can hear so many multiple shots, I wonder if the deer are shooting back. This year I know who was hunting where so I knew these guys were careful.
DeleteStill, poor Charlie! He is better tonight.
I think it's wonderful that one of the things you get so much enjoyment from has become something he not only enjoys but helps him both physically and mentally.
ReplyDeleteYes, that is incredible. He really enjoys finding and building the minifigures. It is a challenge but he smiles and chuckles as he does it.
DeletePoor Charlie. That looks like an amazing Lego set! What a wonderful activity for Rich!
ReplyDeleteIt is a huge set! Probably the biggest one I've ever taken on. But since I love the Medieval era, it seemed to be a good one. Rich is enjoying it.
DeleteI'm so glad you discovered the lego sets and all they can do for your husband. And that you both enjoy the process!! I can't wait to see all the creations.
ReplyDeleteGun season doesn't start here until Dec 3. We are overrun with deer in our community.
We are overrun in a different manner here too. I can see 10 just walking up my driveway to check the mail in the mornings!
DeleteLego is 3 dimensional which may appeal to Rich's sense of interest as he used to design things in his welding shop.
I would find the gunfire disturbing, but I think I might find the Lego therapeutic. Perhaps doctors should prescribe things like this. It takes more that pills, drugs and surgery to keep us well.
ReplyDeleteThe gunfire doesn't bother me so much. The poor dog sure melts down.
DeleteI agree. Anything to keep the mind and body active is a good thing. Much better than pills.
Sounds like a wonderful project for both of you! I have never put together Lego sets, but love to work puzzles. RHill, TX
ReplyDeletePuzzles and Legos are much the same, though Legos is more playful and 3 D!
DeleteI don't think I would have the patience for Legos. We have had some gunfire around here as well, but only an occasional shot, nothing too close by.
ReplyDeleteAwww, it is no different than doing a puzzle which some people really enjoy too. Just a 3D puzzle!
DeleteThe gunfire lessened during the week. So we'll see what happens in the next few days. :)
