Hello Winter

with darkness...and cold.

You have a certain appeal for me.
No flying skeeters and No-seeums. Fresh cool air. Cold crisp nights and days.
Warm blankets and a cuddly dog at night.
Candle light.
Soups.
Stews.

Frigid winds. Leafless trees.

Bitter.

Bright clear sunshine on cold days. Low slanted sunny days.

Ice.

Snow.

Colors of delight in
the forest
of invasive Barberry plants.

Glistening paths through the woods with a happy dog who also loves cold weather.

The pleasure of seeing the moon in the morning through the naked trees.

...and now in the logged area of the forest...
magical morning light as the sun comes over the hillside.

Welcome winter.
You are a good friend.

  1. Winter is a good friend indeed, and so few people realize that. We have had snow here, too, and my friends at the bird feeders bring great joy.

    1. Yes, the cold brings in the birds as well as the snow which adds beauty to the scene.

  2. I don’t mind winter so much, but I am not a fan of pre-winter. I haven’t loved this too-early snow, and I look out of the window from my comfy chair to see more flakes falling.

    1. You still manage to take the most beautiful winter shots! Our snow disappeared.

  3. I had a couple of winters in Wisconsin, and was stunned at the brilliant light levels, so unlike the dark winter days I'd grown up with in the UK. Sunglasses in winter! I could have managed with less bitter cold though.

    1. I like winter and most of the time I don't get cold. Last night my hands got frigid and they hurt all night!
I like sunglasses on snowy days!

  4. I'm a fan of winter too, for the first month. Then I want it to be Spring again. Fat chance of that!

  6. Winter is a favorite here, too. We were cold enough for snow but there was no precipitation. Now we are in a warming spell again.

    1. Our snow pretty much evaporated from the ground and when I hiked today I stirred up a bit of dust on the trails. Weird November. Saturday it is supposed to be 60 degrees!

I love Winter too, until I’m restless for warmth, about February. I know I have to wait a month or more for Spring. I’d rather put on a toque and mitts than bug spray ;)

    1. Usually I get restless in March and tire of the snow-ice-mud-rain events. Mitts are the best!

  9. You have Winter there! You have snow! I guess the winds moved our snow to you! Lovely photos Val. I just finished a grocery...I am making Chili in the next couple of days:)

  10. Hello, Winter!! Fireplace season has become my fav for all the good it offers. No one particularly loves super bitter cold or driving on slippery ice covered roads, but there is so much else about Winter to love. I frequently defend it. So many haters living in the wrong State. Dress for the weather, use common sense and find a Winter activity to enjoy (outdoor, or in). I cannot imagine living without Natures seasons. All of them have value. Even my least desirable Summer.

    p.s. Beautiful barberry photo.

    1. Now that I don't have to drive in snow and ice storms, I can enjoy it better.
